West End favorite Jeremiah James is taking on a legendary role at off-Broadway’s Snapple Theater Center! James will play El Gallo in the hit long-running musical The Fantasticks, succeeding current star George Dvorsky. Directed by Tom Jones, The Fantasticks features a book and lyrics by Jones and music by Harvey Schmidt. Follow (follow, follow, follow) James to New York City beginning October 29.
James’ British theater credits include Carousel, Crazy For You, Beauty and the Beast, The Gay Bride of Frankenstein and Oklahoma! His film and TV credits include The Royal Variety Performance and Mayday. As a recording artist, his albums include Teatro and Tupelo, with an untitled sophomore album slated for an upcoming release.
A modern twist on Romeo and Juliet, the musical tells the story of a boy and girl who fall in love and then quickly grow apart when they realize they want to experience the world. The Fantasticks features memorable songs “Try to Remember,” “Much More,” “They Were You” and “Soon It’s Gonna Rain.” The Fantasticks celebrated its 20,000th performance on October 29.
In addition to James, The Fantasticks stars Jim Schubin as Matt, Ali Ewoldt as Luisa, George Lee Andrews as Hucklebee, Joseph Dellger as Bellomy, MacIntyre Dixon as Henry, Michael Nostrand as Mortimer and Pierce Cravens as The Mute. The production also features Allan Snyder, Tom Flagg and Rita Markova.
